iPad Sketch...
With the rumored release of the new iPads tomorrow, I decided to create a version I'd like to purchase. Why a bigger version? I've been really into some the of the new drawing apps for the iPad, but I find the screen just a little too small, as I generally sketch on regular 8.5 x 11 paper. Currently, I have about 5-7 drawing apps that I'm trying out. Hard to decide which is my favorite as they each have pros and cons. Drawing on the screen is a found image by J.Telusers.

Rendering materials...
Misfit Shine comes in an amazing array of colors, so I thought I'd look at rendering a few to see how they'd come out. The Shine unit is modeled in Rhino, from the one I own, and rendered in VRay. The green was the hardest of the colors to match, and I still think it needs a little tweaking. Post process in Photoshop.

I thought of this idea a while back as I was using time machine, and how I'd like to have my data backed up an extra time to the cloud, but not while I was using the network. I'd like to have a setting that would backup to the cloud at night while I was a sleep for example. Modeled in Rhino, rendered in VRay.

Entry way bench...
More for shoe storage than to sit on, it's needed with the amount of shoes we have in the house. Probably end up putting bags on it as well. Stay tuned for the full built version in the near future which will be assembled with glue and socket screws. Not sure if I'm going to keep the holes or not.

Headphones...
Recreation of a existing pair that are from a cool place here in the Bay Area. I like the retro look and feel. These were created in Solidworks, using surfaces, splines, and all the other goodies. Let me know if you can identify the company. I should think of a prize!

Bathroom vanity for builder...
I had the opportunity to design a piece for a construction company that was working on a custom house in the Bay Area. I was responsible for creating something similar to a piece that the client liked, and setting up the drawings for the cabinet shop. Great guys that were building the piece.

Couldn't sleep in this morning, so I decided to get up instead and work on Solidworks. Thought I'd make a spoon/spatula combo to try out some surfacing with splines. Take a look!

Experimenting with piping...
I'm planning on making a new seat bag, so I wanted to create a pattern and see about getting a rough shape and size. Also, gave me a chance to try out my piping skills. I'm using recycled PET fabric here, but I plan on using either Cordura or another weight of nylon. Cheers!

Sabbi "Seedling" Children's Furniture
Just finished this piece of children's furniture this week. I was really excited to finally see it all put together. Made with Pure Bond plywood that's FSC certified, and free of formaldehyde. Latex paint and water based clear coat. Middle picture is the Solidworks render. Happy Friday!

Just finished up this cell phone case concept in Solidworks. Essentially, the back of the case has a locking device that allows it to affix to a variety of attachments. In this example, an adapter attaches to the case that enables it to connect to a Garmin window mount. There's something about a ball joint that I find fascinating. Happy Thursday!

Spent a couple hours today practicing material renderings in Photoshop. I'm calling this the Sony Ericsson MC1 cell phone. Among the many other features I'm sure it would have, this particular phone can also be used as a three button mouse. The surface glass can be depressed at the bottom corners and center, where the slight, embossed circle in the glass in positioned. How would is work ergonomically? Not sure, but that's a good reason to make a 3D model and order a 3D print over the next week. Stay tuned for a Flash demo of the features and maybe some other screen caps. EDIT: Here's the new, updated Dream Machine with all the text added. Created in Solidworks and rendered in Autodesk Showcase. The text was done in Photohop and placed into Showcase as decals.

Arduino electronics for Sprouts...
I've been really into my Arduino boards lately, and it's led me to a new idea for the Sprouts concept. Sprouts was one of two thesis projects, created with good friend and classmate Jesse. Our original version didn't have any electronics, but now I have a new idea on how to add them. This is the first test of that idea, using an accelerometer to light up a LED. This version is very simple, but it was a good way to test out the basics, before I move into a more complex version. I'll be sure to post the final results when they're done. Cheers!

My own headphones...
Took what I learned from that great tutorial and made my own pair. Oh, there a few design problems, but I'll take care of those in the next version. These were made using Rhino v5, and rendered in Showcase. As soon as I can pick up a copy of KeyShot, I'll post another render.

Headphone render...
Great tutorial on creating a set of headphones in Rhino v5. Check it out here: http://tips.rhino3d.com/. These were then rendered in Autodesk Showcase. I also tried out KeyShot, but since it's only a demo version, it put a pesky watermark on the final render. Looked really good, though.
